FAQs
Common questions about your Melbourne (Australia) wedding will be answered on this page. If you have any further questions please Contact Me and I will be happy to answer them.
What kind of harp do you play?
I play a large Celtic harp made by an Australian leading instrument maker, Tim Guster, who lives in Adelaide. It is a 35 string harp with a black-brown body. On the soundboard are intricately burnt-in traditional Celtic designs. Its looks and sounds wonderful.
How many weddings have you played at?
I have played at many, many weddings in Australia and have more than 10 years experience.
Do you play at unusual venues?
Yes. In the past I have played in forests, on beaches and on coastal lookouts.
What is your price for a wedding ceremony?
This will depend upon the location of the ceremony, since your Melbourne wedding might be some distance from the CBD. Another factor taken into acount is how long you wish me to play. Find out about my wedding package offers.
What is your price for a Melbourne wedding reception?
Like most wedding entertainers, my first hour cost is always the costliest, with each following hour at a much reduced price. Therefore, if you would like music for both the ceremony and the reception, you can save costs by hiring me to play at both.

What is your price for Melbourne weddings outside of metropolitan?
This is negotiable, depending upon where your Melbourne wedding will be. I am also available to play in country Victoria adjacent to Melbourne. I will have to charge you a bit extra to cover my costs and time in driving there, but we can discuss this at the outset.

Does your harp need amplification?
My harp has always been loud enough to be heard outdoors, in churches and even in cathedrals. But if you wish me to play wedding harp music somewhere that has many people talking, then my harp will need amplification. Often a large venue will have a P.A. system, so all I need to do is plug my harp pick-up straight into this. Otherwise we can discuss this early on and come up with an easy solution such as using an amp.

How long can you play at a reception?
I can play wedding harp music up to 3 hours. During this time I will need a 10 minute break every 30 minutes.
If you wish I can arrange to play wedding harp music with perhaps a guitarist or flautist, but this will cost extra. In this case I could play up to four hours.
What are your requirements on the day?
All I need is for you to provide me with a standard-sized chair. My harp and I need to be sheltered from rain, hot sun, sand and wind. The latter is a problem because strong wind makes all the strings ring, giving the music a muddy sound. A breeze is seldom a problem though.
What if it rains?
The harp, like most musical instruments, is vulnerable to the elements. In most cases I have found that outside weddings have provision for rain, so it is not usually a problem. If this is not the case, I will have to pack up my harp immediately it starts to rain.
