Pachelbels Canon
Melbourne, Australia
Pachelbels Canon is possibly the most popular piece of music played at weddings, especially for the wedding march. This popular piece is also referred to as "Canon D" or Canon D Pachelbel".
It was written in 1680 by Johann Pachelbel so it belongs to the Baroque period. It was originally composed for a string quartet but there are now many beautiful arrangements for solo instruments, notably the harp.
Pachelbel's is a tried and trusted piece for the wedding march. It's a 4/4 time tune so you can walk to it and its stateliness and popularity make it very suitable. Many of your guests will recognise it straight away.

This particular Canon is quite a long piece of music, so unless you walk very, very slowly or stand waiting for it to finish, don't expect to have the entire piece performed. There are however, many points where the musician can stop in the piece without it sounding abrupt, which also makes it very suitable.

With many people choosing this piece of music for their wedding ceremony, you might want to be more individual and choose something different.
I have therefore put together a selection of wedding music suitable for the procession. Check out my Wedding Music Sampler.
I have many years experience as a wedding entertainer in Australia and am happy to advise you on where music might fit best for your occasion.
